BALTIMORE, Ohio – University of Rio Grande head cross country/track & field coach Bob Willey has announced the signing of Liberty Union High School’s Aubrey Dunfee for the 2014-15 school year.

Dunfee, a 5-foot-5 distance runner, saw prep success for head coach Renee Mangette’s Lions’.

“I’m so glad I get to run at the collegiate level,” Dunfee said after signing on the dotted line. “I’ve wanted to run in college ever since middle school.”

Willey acknowledges the great addition to his program.

“Aubrey is someone that we feel can add a lot of depth to our program, both in the fall with cross country and later in the year with track & field,” he said. “She’s a great young lady. We’re pleased to make her the latest addition to the program.”

Dunfee, who plans to major in radiology/sonography upon enrollment, credits her high coach for influencing her to sign with the RedStorm, despite receiving offers from Wilmington College and Spalding University.

Dunfee mentioned doing the little things right when asked about what she could improve upon.

“I think I can bring hard work to Rio Grande and hope to be the best I can be,” said Dunfee. “I need to improve on my racing technique, however.”

Dunfee is the daughter of Rose Witham of Baltimore.
