UPDATE

MEIGS COUNTY – The Ohio State Highway Patrol has released the name of the person killed in the crash on State Route 7 today.

According to the OSHP, Michelle Hayes, 29, of Gallipolis died at the scene of the crash. The passenger of the vehicle was taken by life flight. No word on that person’s condition or their name as of yet.

The road was closed for several hours following the crash, but has since been reopened.

CHESTER – A a fatal car crash has happened on State Route 7, just south of Eastern High School.

Trooper Shawn Cunningham said the road may be open to at least one lane. Traffic has been at a standstill as as emergency personnel have been on the scene.

According to Trooper Cunningham, one person was life flighted and one person was pronounced dead on the scene. A car struck out

Megs County Sheriff Keith Wood was on the scene along with several Highway Patrol officers and fireman from Tuppers Plains and Chester departments.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol crash reconstruction team from Zanesville has been called in to assist in investigating the scene as well.
