UPDATE

The names have been released of the drivers involved in the fatal car crash on Route 33 Wednesday morning.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol report just released, Gilbert Woods of Mansfield, Ohio was driving a semi truck at about 55 mph westbound on 33 when he struck a pick up truck driven by Tommy R. Reuter of Pomeroy.

Reuter was turning eastbound onto US 33 from County Road 89 in a GMC Sierra. Both vehicles became engulfed in flames. Reuter did not survive the crash.

The Montgomery County Corner will be assisting in the investigation. Along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Athens County Sheriff’s Office, Meigs County Sheriff’s Office, Athens Fire Department, Richland Area Volunteer Fire Department, Athens County EMS and the Athens County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.

A morning crash has left one person dead on Route 33.

The crash happened at the intersection of Route 33 and Rainbow Lake Road.

A semi truck struck a pick up truck. The name of the deceased has not been released. The driver of the truck is the driver who passed away as a result of the accident.

Traffic is being closed off and detoured around the area as Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
