Meigs County Safety Day 2014

stars-storyOn June 7, 2014 The Pomeroy, Rutland and Middleport Fire Departments will be hosting Safety Day 2014 at the Meigs Elementary. Safety Day was originally established by the Three Fire Departments as a way to teach the community about the fire service and fire safety but quickly turned into an all-around public safety event to include local law enforcement and emergency medical service. During the event stations will be set up so families can speak with the public safety personnel and look at the equipment they use on a daily basis as well as in specialized situations. During the event there will be multiple demonstrations including the cutting of vehicles with extrication tools by the fire departments and a K-9 demonstration from Meigs County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Brandy King and K-9 Bax. Weather permitting Air Evac 82 will also be landing.

Also included at safety day will free food and drinks, a fire truck show, along with drawings for free smoke alarms every half an hour.

The three departments believe this will be a fun filled day which will bring the community and public safety personnel together to educate the community on safety issues as well as the responsibilities of the agencies involved.

The fallowing Agencies will be present at safety day including:

-Pomeroy Fire Department

-Rutland Fire Department

-Middleport Fire Department

-The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office

-Ohio State Highway Patrol

-Middleport Police Department

-Pomeroy Police Department

-Meigs County Emergency Medical Service

Other events include:

-Fire, EMS and Law Enforcement Vehicles & Displays

-Fire Truck Show

-Smoke House

-Air Evac Landing

-Meigs Inflatables

-Free Smoke Alarm Drawings every 30 Minutes

Demonstrations Schedule:

-12:30: Firefighting and Fire Safety

-1:00: Vehicle Extrication

-2:00: Firefighting and Fire Safety

-2:30: Vehicle Extrication

-3:30: K-9 Demonstration
