Meigs County Commissioners Approve Neighborhood Revitalization Program

stars-storyPOMEROY – The Meigs County Commissioners convered on June 12, 2014, for their weekly meeting at the Meigs County Courthouse in Pomeroy, Ohio. Though some important issues were brought to the table during the short session, the most important was perhaps the approval by the commissioners of the 2014 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Neighborhood Revitalization Program, with over $300,000 being dedicated to the improvement of Middleport Village.

The program will see various amounts of funding go to different projects within Middleport. Projects being funded will include the demolition of the old Middleport Pool, improvements to streets in the village, repair for multiple sidewalks, and money allocated to help fund the walking trail that is in the works to cut through Middleport. In addition, the program will fund a skate park to be built in Middleport, near the site of the old pool. Eddie Lawrence, an engineering out of Seattle, Washington, will be donating the design for the park, and contractors with experience working with skate parks will be allowed to bid on the project at a future date.

Other topics brought up at the meeting included the transfer of county funds, and approval of an advance back of $15,400 from B036-B04 into the County General. The county bills were also approved, with $48,040.59 on the County General bill, and $333,193.90 in bills as a whole for Meigs County. The approval of the previous week’s minutes was tabled until next week.
