Man Released on Own Recognizance While Child He Allegedly Abused Remains in Critical Condition

MEIGS COUNTY – A child remains in critical condition following alleged abuse by his father.

Meigs County Sheriff, Keith O. Wood, reports the arrest of Thaddeus Bumgardner, on June 24. Deputies conducted a search warrant of Bumgardner’s home on Noble Summit Road.

Sheriff Wood said deputies first began the investigation when Bumgardner’s five month old son was flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital due to severe bruising and injuries consistent with abuse. Sheriff Wood also told the Meigs Independent Press that Children’s Protective Services was involved with the case as well.

Bumgardner was arraigned before Judge Story in Meigs County Court on June 25, for the charge of Felonious Assault, and was granted release on his own recognizance, against the recommendation of the Meigs County Prosecuting Attorney’s office.

As of June, 25, at 4:16 p.m. Cabell Huntington Hospital is listing the baby as “critical”.
