Obit CandleViola E. Slone, 87, of Crown City, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 10, 2014.

She was born August 18, 1927 in Gallia County, daughter of the late Ferry Fillinger Sr. and Emily Sanders Fillinger. Viola married James M. “Jim” Slone and he preceded her in death on March 3, 2005. She was a cook at Hannan Trace and a homemaker. Viola was a member of Mercerville Baptist Church and attended Providence Missionary Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, James H. “Jim” (Rebecca) Slone of Oak Hill; a daughter, Cathy Slone (Dean) Martin of Crown City; five grandchildren, Tim Slone, Kevin Martin, Mary Beth Smith, Jessica Helsinger, and Justin Slone; great grandchildren, Hunter and Samantha Martin, Emma Helsinger, Megan Dyer; great great grandson Jaxson; sisters, Bonnie (Glen) Rose, Helen Hart, and Francis VanPelt.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jim Slone, Viola was preceded in death by a son, Joe Slone, sisters, Roselea Cornell and Janie Gladman. brothers Virgil, Russell, Edward, Ferry and Floyd Fillinger.

Services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Troy Delaney officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgelawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. -1:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Tim Slone, Kevin Martin, Justin Slone, Mike Brown, Chuck Rose and Collin Helsinger. Honorary pallbearers will be Loren and B.J.Cox, Tim Brown and Jessie Smith.
