Meigs County Sheriff’s Office Investigate Shooting, Find Marijuana

1939913_837775412981915_1582722172322678403_n 1662016_837775232981933_7275892712626124569_nMeigs County Sheriff Keith Wood reports that on June 7,2015 at approx. 11:29 pm, 911 advised his office that a Gene A. Arms JR of 1332 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Wellston OH stated to them that he had his hand shot off by a Tyler Meyers of 35065 Salem School Lot Road, Langsville and he was driving to O’Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens Ohio. The Ohio State Highway Patrol Athens Post was able to locate Arms in Athens County and their EMS was contacted for the transport to the hospital where he was later transferred to Grant Hospital in Columbus. Deputies went to the Tyler Meyers residence where he and Darrin Johnston of 27040 Price Strong Road, Vinton were attempting to load a box trailer with Marijuana and other items, they were arrested and transported to Middleport Jail. Meyers and Johnston were charged with cultivation of marijuana, Tampering with Evidence , and felonious assault.

Deputies were able to ascertain that the shooting occurred at the residence of Amber Helm of 28475 Star Hall Road, Langsville. Blood was observed on the ground outside of the house leading to the front door. Helm stated that the shooting occurred in the bedroom of her home where the two were fighting. She stated the one of the men had a handgun and the two started struggling over the firearm. The gun discharged striking Arms in the hand.

While investigating the shooting incident Deputies detected the strong odor of marijuana coming from the residence. It was found that one room of the home had been converted to a grow area for marijuana. The residence was secured and search warrants were obtained for both the Helms and Meyers residences and Investigators from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation & Identification (BCI&I) were called to process the crime scene. Indoor grow equipment, vehicles, and a large sum of cash were seized as a result of the searches.

Sheriff Wood states that the investigation is ongoing and believes that more arrest are forthcoming.
