US Navy ObitMelvin B. Freeman, 78, of Racine, passed away, at 12:40 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2016 in the Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis. Born February 25, 1938, in New Cumberland, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Romie and Alma Carter Freeman.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a retired over the road truck driver.

He is survived by his children: Melvin B. “Joe” (Rhea) Freeman, of Cheshire; Shari Eblin, of Racine; Jeanette “Nutty” (Jim Quillen) Lunsford, of Pomeroy; and Judy (Ronnie) Hawley, of Middleport. He leaves fourteen grandchildren, twenty five great-grandchildren, three step-daughters, Christy Duncan, Pam Persons, and Missie Thoma, as well as one step-son, Ronnie Davis. Also surviving are sisters Lenora Wagner, of Ripley, West Virginia, and Lorena Mathney, of Concord, North Carolina of Ripley. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his sons, Douglas Eugene Freeman, and Donnie Allen Freeman. Also preceding him in death were his brothers, Clarence and Gerald Freemen, and sisters Evelyn Nicholson, Geneva Snyder and Linda Burgess.

In keeping with Melvin’s wishes there will be no funeral services or calling hours. Cremation services are entrusted to the Cremeens Funeral Home, Racine.
