POMEROY – Arguments were heard in the Meigs County Court of Common Pleas Friday, Feb. 10, 2017 in the matter of disputed property between the Village of Rutland and the Meigs County Commissioners.

Judge D. Dean Evans heard testimony and arguments from Meigs County Prosecuting Attorney James Stanley in his capacity as attorney for the Meigs County Commissioners and the attorneys for the Rutland Village, Richard Clagg and Rusty Miller.

The injunction was filed after the Village of Rutland attempted to sell property the Meigs County Commissioners claimed was to have been part of the assets transferred when the county had to take over the water and sewer departments of the village in 2012. Rutland has long had financial issues and the debt was such that either the County Commissioners stepped in or federal agencies would have taken over the facilities.

The hearing started just after 9 a.m. Testimony and arguments went until after 11 a.m. with only a short break at one point after testimony had concluded.

Judge Evans will consider the arguments and evidence he heard today. He did not indicate when a ruling would be made, but a decision could come later next week. The temporary injunction is still in place.

A detailed report of the testimony will be published in another article on the Meigs Independent Press.
