RACINE, Ohio – The Austin C. Settoon has gone through a tainter gate and currently is stuck in the Racine Locks and Dam.

At some point, there was reportedly concern that the Austin C. Settoon was going to sink. It would be better for it to be in the lower pool of the Ohio River if it were to sink. The tainter gates were opened to allow it to go through. It has become lodged in the that gate. No one was reportedly on the vessel at the time. The pilot house and stack are visibly damaged.

The tow and two barges have been stuck against the dam since early morning Thursday, March 2, 2017 after another barge broke loose and went into the lock chamber, according to Chuck Minsker, Public Affairs Specialist with the Huntington District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
