Richard S. “Dick” Owen, 94, of Pomeroy died Sunday, March 4, 2018. Born May 2, 1923 in Meadville, Pa., he was the son of William V. and Louise Owen.

A 1941 graduate of North High School, Columbus, Mr. Owen served in Burma with the Army Air Corps during World War II. Upon his return home he attended Ohio University, Athens, graduating in 1949. He was publisher of the Ohio Valley Publishing Company from 1952 to 1978, during which time he was an active member of the Middleport Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce, and the business community in the Tri-County area.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death in 2005 by his beloved wife of 50 years, Sara Daune Hartley Owen, whom he married on Sept. 3, 1955. He was also preceded in death by sister and brother-in-law Margaret Jane and Dan Lane; sister Betty L. Owen; brother and sister-in-law Edgar James “Jim” and Phyllis Owen; sister-in-law Jackie Owen; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Ida Lee and Jim Roller, and June and Owen Cantrell.

He is survived by a daughter, Judy Owen (Ron) Baird, Westerville, and son, Dick (Jeannie) Owen, Pomeroy; four grandchildren, Jonathan (Joni), Michael (Bobbi), and Rebecca Owen, and John Baird; three great-grandchildren, Ruth, Fern and Lewis Owen; a brother, William V. “Bill” (Eileen) Owen Jr., Columbus; sister-in-law Nancy (Henry) Copper, Liberty, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 1 p.m.  at the Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home in Middleport with Father Ron Baird officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
