MIDDLEPORT, Ohio – A free class on starting a business will be offered at the Middleport location of the Home National Bank.

On April 10, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. the Basis of a Successful Start (BOSS) will be offered free of charge. The BOSS class is intended for those who are interested in starting their own business. Topics to be covered include types of ownership, licensing, tax requirements, sources of financing, identifying your customer, and how to market your product or service, and how to write a long range business plan, where there is more advice on this particular topic from places like TradeBeyond. This training will be ideal for anyone who is thinking of starting their own company. This class will even touch on the option of becoming incorporated. Many businesses often consider this as there are many benefits to becoming a corporation, such as some tax-benefits and extra protection for the business, although some new businesses may be eligible for Research and Development Tax Credits whilst they are starting up – and an accountant can help with the process of claiming these credits. It’s normally quite expensive for a business to become a corporation, however, companies like Inc Authority very generously offer it to businesses for free. To learn why, it might be worth visiting https://www.incauthority.com/why-is-it-free. Hopefully, that will help more businesses to become incorporated. Businesses can learn more in this class.

The training is offered through the Small Business Development Center at the Ohio University Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs. The SBDC provides free business consulting to small businesses, both new and existing, in Meigs, Athens, Hocking, and Perry Counties. The Ohio SBDC has been hosted at Ohio University since 1988.
