Former Probation and Corrections Officer in Custody

ASHLAND, Ohio – A former corrections officer and probation officer has been taken into custody on a warrant in Ashland County, Ohio.

Larry David Tucker, 55, was arrested as a result of a warrant for his arrest on May 5, 2018. As of 8 p.m. on May 5, he was listed as an inmate at the Ashland County Sheriff’s Jail.

Tucker had been employed by the Meigs County Court of Common Pleas as a probation officer and as a corrections officer at the Middleport Jail. He has since been dismissed from both positions. It is in his capacity as a corrections officer at the Middleport Jail that a charge of sexual battery was filed against him. Tucker allegedly had sexual conduct with an inmate at the Middleport facility while he was working at the jail.

While official word has not been released, the Meigs Independent Press was made aware of a special grand jury that was convened this past week which reportedly concerned Tucker’s case. New charges are expected to be forthcoming as there are reportedly several alleged victims. A special judge as well as a special prosecutor are supposed to be assigned to the case. The investigation has been handled by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Previously Tucker appeared for initial arraignment on the single charge in Meigs County Municipal Court before Judge Steven Story. Tucker was released on an OR (Own Recognizance) bond. Previously, Tucker has been represented by Charles Knight.

Tucker also has a seat on the Meigs Local Board of Education. The school superintendent, Scot Gheen, previously released a statement that the school does not have the same authority over an elected official as they would an employee. The statement said the district has asked Tucker to stay away from Meigs Local property for the duration of the case or until further notice. Tucker has not been attending school board meetings.
