Marlin “Junior” Hughes, 84,

image001Marlin “Junior” Hughes, 84, of Gallipolis, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Kobacker Hospice Center, Columbus, Ohio.

He was born August 16, 1929 in Gallipolis, son of the late Marlin Hughes and Birda Lallathin Hughes Conley. Marlin married Kathleen Northup on January 18, 1953 at Derby, Ohio with the service performed by Rev. L.A. Nihizer and she survives him.

He graduated in 1947 from Gallia Academy High School. Marlin was a U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1947 to 1950, attending training at the U.S. Naval Center, Great Lakes, Illinois. He was on the destroyers ships, USS Storms (DD780) and USS Zellers (DD777) in radar/sonar where he earned the distinction of Petty Officer in charge. Marlin retired from Buckeye Rural Electric as a lineman and line superintendent following 39 years of service.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Kathleen Hughes of Gallipolis; five children, Marlin Dean Hughes of Bruceton Mills, West Virginia, Marcia (Clete) Weigel of Kent, Ohio, Teresa Roach of Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia, Kevin (Cynthia) Hughes of Jackson, Ohio and Rhonda Cheney of Pensacola, Florida; 9 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; and two sisters, Luella Sanders and Amanda Shoup.

In addition to his parents, Marlin was preceded in death by grandsons, Jonathan and Michael Weigel.

Services will be 2:00 p.m, Thursday, January 30, 2014 at the Willis Funeral Home with Pastor Paull Voss officiating. Burial will follow in Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. There will be a military service at the graveside.

Pallbearers will be Marlin D., Kevin and Jason Hughes, Danny Kay, Joseph, Philip and JonMichael Weigel.
