MEIGS COUNTY – Meigs County 4-H had their kick off at Meigs High School this past weekend.

Advisors, 4-Hers, parents, grandparents, and others came to see old friends and meet some new ones at the annual kick off. The event had several clubs represented along with projects available for participants to take in the coming 4-H season.

According to Michelle Stumbo, 4-H and Youth Development, County Director, “This is an opportunity for the clubs to show what they offer.”

Various clubs were represented from all around Meigs County. Other activities were going on including a food collection for the back pack program. Stumbo said community service is a part of being in 4-H. The Meigs County Fashion Board was also on hand offering participants the opportunity to have fun pictures taken dressed up in various accessories.

Stumbo said she was happy with the turnout. In addition to the 4-H kick off a Quality Assurance session was going on. Quality Assurance is a requirement for those taking market projects and other such projects as lambs or steers to be exhibited at the Meigs County Fair.

The pledge of 4-Hers is, “I pledge my head to clearer thinking, my heart to greater loyalty, my hands to larger service, and my health to better living for my club, my community, my country, and my world.” The program is designed to encourage participants to follow the 4-H motto “To Make the Best Better” in all that they do.

Projects vary and a catalog is available listing them all from the Meigs County Extension Office. The projects vary in skill level and interest. There are various market and animal projects. Some of the projects are more interest based include: You and Your Dog; Clothing for Middle School; Become a Puppeteer; Focus on Photography; Cake Decorating; I Spy in the Kitchen; Makeover My Space; Staying Healthy; You’re the Chef; Rockets Away; Robotics Master; Nailing it Together; Basic Archery and many more.

Stumbo noted that the enrollment deadline for Meigs County is April 1. Anyone interested in 4-H should contact the Meigs County Extension Office at (740) 992-6696 prior to April 1.
