DayViolet Elaine Robie Day of Landrum, 83, died peacefully on January 18 at the Hospice House in Landrum. She was married for 51 years to the late Billy E. Day. As a career Navy wife, she lived in Portsmouth, Ohio and Satellite Beach, Florida before moving to Virginia Beach, Virginia where she worked for 30 years as office manager and bookkeeper for Cardinal Sign, the state’s largest sign company. Mrs. Day moved to Landrum in 2008 where she attended First Baptist Church of Gowensville and was a member of the Branyon-Godseekers Class. The daughter of the late Everett and Erma Casto Robie, she grew up on a farm in Bidwell, Ohio where she helped her mother raise six younger siblings. After high school graduation, she worked for Hank Evans to provide financial support for her family. A strong Christian woman, she was known for her devotion to her family and for her beautiful smile which matched her generous and giving spirit.

Mrs. Day is survived by her children, Linda Lancaster (Douglas Lewis) of Landrum and Robert E. Day (Rebecca) of Portsmouth, Virginia; her former daughter-in-law, Tamela Day of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; six grandchildren: Taryn Day, Rogers, Arizona; Jehan Day, Tahlequah, Oklahoma; Kenny Day (Lonnie), Claremont, Oklahoma; Thomas (Leslie) Day, Farmmville, Virginia; Kirstyn Day, Fayetteville, Arizona; and Ellen Elsass, Portsmouth, Virginia; and five great grandchildren: Samara and Logan Pritchett, Haylee and Austin Day and Jonas Elsass. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters: Jean Barr (Bill), Kerr, Ohio; Carroll Robie, Bidwell, Ohio; Keith Robie (Cheryl), Gallipolis, Ohio; Marvin Robie ( Marguerite), Bidwell, Ohio; Betty Briggs, San Diego, California and two sisters-in-law, Joyce Robie of Bidwell, Ohio and Shirley Ball of Denton, Ohio. She was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Robie a sister-in-law, Barbara Shell Robie and a brother-in-law, David Briggs. She is also survived by a number of cherished nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful to her caregivers at The Haven, Cottages of Brushy Creek and the Hospice House in Landrum.

Memorial services will be conducted 12:00 Noon Saturday, April 12, 2014 in the First Church of the Nazarene, 1110 First Ave. Gallipolis, Ohio with Pastor Gene Harmon officiating. Graveside Interment services will be conducted 10:00 AM Saturday in the Vinton Memorial Park. The McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel, is honored to serve the Day Family.
