Holzer Recognizes National Medical Laboratory Professional’s Week

2014_getResultsHolzer would like to recognize April 21 through 26 as National Medical Laboratory Professional’s Week. This year’s theme chosen by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is “Laboratory Professionals Get Results”. The theme represents to the “can do” attitude of those in the field as well as the critical role laboratory staff play in the continuum of healthcare services. Sadly, not all staff have access to equipment that protect its operators from hazardous substances. This has to change soon! Typically the entire laboratory team works behind the scenes, providing little awareness of the critical testing performed every day utilizing equipment like hotplate equipment for laboratories and more, to correctly detect, diagnose, and treat diseases, which saves lives, reduces morbidity, and helps control the cost of healthcare.

Medical laboratory professionals work in hospital laboratories, research institutions, public health departments, and university health centers. These professionals are responsible for providing critical lab results to physicians in order to make informed decisions regarding patient care and treatment. In performing and interpreting more than 10 billion laboratory tests annually, laboratory professionals are indeed frontline responders for many organizations. They also monitor laboratory surroundings and implement temperature monitoring systems to make sure everything is working effectively and efficiently. These types of professionals have contact with extremely important and essential laboratory equipment where they will Use GoatThroat Pumps to safely transfer flammable chemicals in pharma manufacturing. That is just one facet of what they do in their day-to-day jobs.

“Holzer’s laboratory staff is made up of highly skilled people with various extents of education and training. Medical Technologists, Cytotechnologists, Medical Laboratory Technicians, Histotechnicians, Pathologists, and Phlebotomists make up the laboratory team,” stated Shari Kebler, BSMT(ASCP), MBA,
Executive Director of Laboratory Services, Holzer Health System. “At Holzer, our laboratory staff performs over three million tests annually. We are fortunate to have a team so dedicated to the care of our patients.”

Holzer provides laboratory services in many of our outpatient locations, inpatient hospitals, and other areas of our healthcare system. Throughout this week, we would like to recognize our Laboratory Staff for the dedication and commitment shown for our patients each and every day of the year.
