image001Holzer Senior Care Center (HSCC) recently held a proclamation signing to recognize May 11 – 17 as National Nursing Home Week. To kick off the week, HSCC held a reception featuring special music by Leah Smith and remarks presented by Teresa Remy-Detty, Vice President of Post-Acute Care Services, and special guest Eva Leah Curry (shown pictured). In addition, Gallia County Commissioner’s signed a proclamation declaring the week as National Nursing Home Week with Brent Saunders, Gallia County Commissioner, at left, presenting the proclamation to Teresa Coffee, Holzer Senior Care Center Administrator (also shown pictured).

The proclamation states:

Whereas, our beloved citizens of Gallia County, Ohio now residing in nursing homes, nursing care and post-acute care centers have contributed immeasurably to the heritage, success and growth of our community; and

Whereas, nursing home residents of any age or ability are themselves living history and a previous resource: and

Whereas, member skilled nursing care centers of the American Health Care Association are holding events in observance of Nursing Home Week guided by this year’s national theme of “Living the Aloha Spirit” and

Whereas, Nursing Home Week begins on Mother’s Day, May 11 and ends on May 17, 2014.

Therefore, we the Gallia County Commissioners, proclaim May 11-17 as National Nursing Home Week and we urge everyone in the County to visit their loved one, friend or neighbor currently residing in a skilled nursing care center to show respect for all that they have given to society and to us. Let no elderly and disabled person sit alone during this time to wonder if they are valued, appreciated, and loved. Visiting or volunteering your time at a local care facility is a testament to community spirit, brings honor to our fathers, mothers, grandparents, and everyone in residence, and lifts the spirits of caregivers who value your involvement. Signed: David K Smith, President, Brent Saunders, Vice President, and Harold G. Montgomery, Commissioner.
