State Rep. Debbie Phillips, Ohio University Student Nicole Andrus Recently Honored

repsCOLUMBUS- State Rep. Debbie Phillips (D-Albany) was recently named “Public Official of the Year” by District 5 of the National Association of Social Workers for her support of social work and education issues. Among the honorees were students, educators and professionals in the social work field.

“I really appreciate the work of NASW and was impressed by the awardees and their accomplishments,” said Rep. Phillips. “I’m deeply honored by the recognition and I would like to encourage social work professionals and supporters to continue to stay involved in public policy. It’s important that public officials know the many ways social workers improve our communities, and how good public policy can help.”

Nicole Andrus, an Ohio University student, received the “Bachelor’s of Social Work Student of the Year Award.” Nicole was recognized for her many activities, including volunteer and intern projects and her mentoring of other students. Nicole plans to begin work on a Master’s of Social Work degree later this month.

Both women were introduced by Ohio University Professor Solveig Spjeldnes, a social work instructor in Ohio University’s College of Health Sciences and Professions.
