Daniel Ernest Swisher, age 91

dan swisher obit pictureDaniel Ernest Swisher, age 91, of Cheshire, Ohio, took his last breath on July 19th in the comfort of his home. He was born in Cheshire on April 3, 1923 to the late Erman and Vesta Shaffer Swisher. In addition to his parents he is preceded by in death by his wife, Mary Lou Allensworth Swisher, and his brother Ura (Mildred) Swisher.
Surviving is his brother Gordon (Sophia) Swisher, Rodney, Ohio, son Daniel D. (Janet) Swisher, Burleson, Tx, daughter Susan Swisher, San Diego, Ca, and grandson Jason (Jen) Swisher, Fairplay, Co.

Daniel and his brother Gordon were born to farming, as they managed the 350 acre Elm View Farm with their father for several years in the Cheshire area. They also did custom work for other farmers in the Ohio and West Virginia area. After the death of their father and dissolution of the farm by AEP, Daniel and Gordon continued working together after purchasing the John Deere Implement business in Gallipolis. Dan later transitioned to independent trucking and was known as “John Deere” by other truckers. He sold his last truck at age 80. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and caregivers.

Friends may call at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home, Gallipolis, on Friday July 25, 2014 between 6-8PM. The service will take place on Saturday July 26 at 11AM, at the Cheshire Park and Boat Ramp on the Ohio River with Rev. Robert Fetty officiating. In case of inclement weather, the service will be held in the Cheshire Baptist Church, across from the park. Burial will follow the service at Gravel Hill Cemetery.
