Bill Johnson Invites Students to Apply for Nomination to U.S. Service Academies

image001(2)MARIETTA – Representative Bill Johnson is proud to announce that his office is currently accepting applications from young men and women interested in seeking a nomination for 2015 admission to a United States service academy.

“The Academy nomination process is one of my most important responsibilities as your representative to Congress,” Johnson said. “The process of selecting future leaders who embody the best of Eastern and Southeastern Ohio is a duty I take very seriously. I understand how these opportunities can shape a young person’s life; it certainly did in my case, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve.”

Johnson entered the United States Air Force in 1973, and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after a distinguished military career of more than 26 years.

Johnson added, “My office will be accepting Academy nominations up until October 15, 2014. I encourage students to contact the Academy in which they are seeking acceptance directly to open a pre-candidate file, and then contact my office to begin the nomination process. I have been privileged to meet outstanding young men and women through this process over the previous three years, and I trust we will have another exemplary pool of applicants this year.”

All of the requested information is required by the October 15 deadline in order for your application to be considered complete. All candidates who submit a complete application will be notified of an interview date and time by October 31, 2014; interviews are currently scheduled for mid-November.

Applicants are reviewed and evaluated by the non-partisan, volunteer 6th Congressional District Service Academy Nomination Board. Applicants still must meet the requirements of each individual service academy; each academy will then make the final decision on who receives an appointment of admission.
