6-State Trooper Project to Kick-Off Multi-State Enforcement Effort this Weekend

unnamed2COLUMBUS – The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be joining forces with other members of the 6-State Trooper Project in an effort to reduce unsafe driving behaviors. Troopers will be targeting safety belt, aggressive driving and impaired motorists along the Interstate 70 corridor. The initiative will take place from October 10 at 12:01 a.m. through October 12 at 11:59 p.m. This high-visibility enforcement effort will include the Indiana State Police, Pennsylvania State Police and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

“The Ohio State Highway Patrol takes the crime of impaired driving seriously,” said Colonel Paul Pride, Patrol superintendent. “Impaired driving is a crime that puts innocent people’s lives in danger.”

From 2009 to 2013, there were a total of 61 fatal crashes on Interstate 70 in Ohio, including 14 that involved an impaired driver. So far this year, there have been nine fatal crashes, including three that involved alcohol and/or drugs on this stretch of road.

The Patrol is dedicated to removing impaired drivers from Ohio roads and increasing educational efforts related to the importance of safety belt usage. In addition, the agency is committed to working with law enforcement partners to address traffic safety issues and crime on our roadways.

The 6-State Trooper Project includes the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Kentucky State Police, Indiana State Police, Pennsylvania State Police, West Virginia State Police and the Michigan State Police.

It is a multi-state law enforcement partnership aimed at providing combined and coordinated law enforcement and security services in the areas of highway safety, criminal patrol and intelligence sharing.
