LANGSVILLE – The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office investigated an stabbing over the weekend with the alleged suspect still at large.

Sheriff Keith Wood reports that on Sunday morning at 12:48 a.m., his office received a call from Meigs 911 that a female had called in stating she had been stabbed and needed help immediately. Deputies responded to a residence on Hampton Hollow Road outside of Langsville along with Meigs EMS. Upon arrival, deputies located the victim, who they found to have stab wounds and severe lacerations about her face, arms and body. The victim was flown to Grant Medical Center in Columbus due to the severity of her wounds.

Deputies attempted to locate the area where the attack on the victim occurred and located a residence that had blood evidence from the assault outside of the door. Entry was made to ascertain if any other victims may have been inside the residence with none found. While inside, deputies discovered more blood on the floor.

Deputies were not able to confirm if the assault occurred at that location or a different location at that time.

Around 10:45 a.m., Edward Mitchell came to the sheriff’s office to give a statement about the incident that occurred at his residence in which he stated that his son, Benjamin Mitchell, attacked the female and himself with a knife and that he was able to escape out of the house, only to find upon his return to his residence that after the attack, Ben Mitchell had stolen Ed’s vehicle.

Deputies secured Mitchell’s residence until Attorney General Mike DeWine’s Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation Crime Scene Unit arrived to process the scene.

The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office is looking for Ben Mitchell as charges are pending against him at this time and he should be considered armed and dangerous.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Sheriff Wood requests that anyone knowing the whereabouts of Ben Mitchell should contact their local law enforcement agency or the sheriff’s office immediately.
