UPDATED – The Gallia-Meigs Ohio State Highway Patrol has released the names of the two men involved in a fatal crash in Meigs County Wednesday afternoon.
According to a statement sent to the Meigs Independent Press, John E. Blake, 84, of Middleport, was the driver of a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis that hit Adam C. Doczi, 33, of Pomeroy, driving a 2006 Honda Civic. The crash happened at 1:15 p.m. near mile post 8.
Blake was west bound on State Route 7 in the east bound lane while Doczi was east bound also on State Route 7 in the east bound lane. The highway is divided into one way traffic only.
Doczi received “non incapacitating” injuries according to the statement released by the Gallia-Meigs office of the patrol. Doczi was air lifted to Saint Mary’s Medical Center. No further information on his condition was available.
Blake was pronounced dead at the scene. Arrangements are being handled by the Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home.
Both Blake and Doczi were wearing the seat belts according to the statement.

POMEROY – One man is dead following a head on collision on US Route 33 and State Route 7. The other driver was air lifted to Saint Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia.
According to Lt. Barry Call with the Gallia-Meigs Ohio State Highway Patrol the driver of a light blue Mercury Grand Marquis was driving the wrong way on the highway and crashed head on into a silver Honda Civic coupe. If Doczi so wanted to he could be owed compensation considering he was not the offending party, he might want to get into touch with a law firm such as the attorneys at GJEL San Francisco that takes road accident claims, or a more local firm to him.
The driver of the Grand Marquis was about 84 years of age and was pronounced dead at the scene according to Lt. Call. The other driver was an adult male, but further information was not available as of publication. Lt. Call said as far as he knew the other driver did not have life threatening injuries.
According to Lt. Call, “The Grand Marquis was coming south in the north bound lane.”
The driver of the Honda Civic was headed north in the north bound lane when the Grand Marquis collided head on into him.
In addition to Meigs EMS, the Pomeroy Fire Department was on scene with Pumper 1 and Truck 6. Multiple Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers were on the scene as well as a deputy from the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office assisting with stopping traffic. Part of US 33 and Route 7 remained closed until 3:15 p.m. while the OSP investigated the crash.
Meigs County Sheriff Keith Wood was also responded as well as the Rev. Daniel Fulton with the Meigs County Public Safety Chaplain Program.
The names of the victims have not been released, but Lt. Call said both were residents of Meigs County. The investigation is ongoing.
