crime & court newsPOMEROY – The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office reported several calls the final week of November including possible clowns, poaching, fights, domestic issues, and stolen wallets.

On Sunday, November 27, 2016, deputies responded to an alleged fight between two males at Twins Oaks gas station. Upon arrival, the unnamed station clerks said both parties had left the scene. The individuals in question were not known the clerks.

Deputies also responded to a call about a female yelling at vehicles passing by on Bradbury Road, however, once deputies arrived -along with assistance from the Middleport Police Department- the individual was no where to be found.

On Monday, November 28, deputies responded to a call of possible poaching near Mine Num. 1 off of State Route 124. The caller reported a red truck with what appeared to be a bike rack back in the area. Deputies patrolled, but did not locate the vehicle.

On Tuesday, November, 29, deputies arrived at Schick Road after a caller stated he and his father had got into an argument, during which the father knocked out a window and cutting himself. Deputies responded with EMS and transported one to Holzer ER for treatment.

Also on Tuesday, deputies responded to a call of a theft from a motor vehicle in Rutland. Upon arrival, law enforcement determined a vehicle sitting at Pizza Dans had been entered and a wallet taken. The incident is under further investigation.

Continuing on Tuesday, deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call on Starcher Road. After investigating, the parties were found to be arguing over personal property. They were advised it was a civil matter and would need to contact their attorneys.

Also on Tuesday, deputies responded to a male walking around in New Lima Road in Rutlandthe neighborhood. The subject was described as white male around 6′ tall, of thin build wearing a green hoodie and blue jeans. The complainant advised the male got in her vehicle and stole a pack of cigarettes from the car. Deputies responded and was unable to locate the male subject.

There was a deer crash on US 33 near Five Points deputies responded to involving a tractor trailer striking a deer. No injuries were reported and a report was filed.

Also on Tuesday, deputies responded to School Lot Road on a call of spotlighting, however, no vehicle was found after deputies patrolled the area.

On Wednesday, November 30, the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a theft from a business in Rutland. A deputy responded to the scene and took a report. According to reports, the incident was captured on video with a suspect being identified. The investigation is ongoing.

Deputies responded to a call of property damage on State Route 124 near Portland. The complainant stated that some loggers had come onto his property and cut down some of his trees. This incident is under further investigation.

Additionally on November 30, deputies and Meigs County Sheriff Keith Wood assisted Gallia-Meigs Ohio State Highway Patrol with the fatal car crash on State Route 7 as previously reported in the Meigs Independent Press. John E. Blake, 84, was killed in the crash and Adam C. Doczi was injured and transported from the scene.

Deputies also responded to a child locked in car on State Route 681, Reedsville. The vehicle was unlocked.

On Thursday, December 1, dispatch received a call from a male subject requesting a well-being check on his daughter, who is supposed to be staying in Meigs County. The caller said his daughter had said she would be home for Thanksgiving, but failed to show up. The caller advised she had not been heard from. Deputies investigated the complaint, the daughter was located and living in another part of the county. She was okay and has since made contact with her family.

Deputies responded to Park Road in reference to tenants allegedly being very loud and disruptive. Deputies made contact with the tenants and advised them to keep the noise down.

Responding deputies went to Texas Road in reference to someone in a large four-wheel drive vehicle allegedly doing doughnuts and spotlighting the field. The caller advised they ran the subjects off the property once around midnight and the suspect had returned. Deputies responded to the area and found it to be an ongoing family issue. No charges were filed.

On December 2, while responding to an unrelated call deputies, noticed an off-road motorcycle operating on Bradbury Road. Deputies later returned and patrolled the area looking for the subject. Witnesses stated that the subject had been in the area and had concerned them because he was wearing what they described as a clown mask. After a short search the subject was located and issued a citation to appear in court. The alleged wearing of a clown mask was not confirmed or denied according to reports.

A deputy conducted a traffic stop on State Route 7 in Tuppers Plains and the driver was cited for a stop sign violation.

Deputies also investigated a deer/vehicle crash on State Route 7 near Owl Creek Road.
