obit candles CGW. S. “Sam” Michael, 97, died Friday, December 16, 2016 at the home of his daughter, Louise Michael. He had been cared for by his loving family, Gary and Sharon Michael, Louise Michael, Lenora and Roger Leifheit and a special R.N. Amanda, and Home Health Aides Samantha and Kellie (Holzer Health System Home Health).

Sam was born March 3, 1918, Skull Run (Ravenswood), West Virginia. His parents were G. L. and Florence Michael. He and his family moved in 1920 (Flatboat and covered wagon) to the present day farm on the Old Chester Road, Chester Township (Pomeroy Pike , Racine) near Chester (former Robinson Farm). He spent his entire life farming. Sam graduated from Chester High 1935. He attended the National School of Engineering Los Angeles, CA 1937 & 1938. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Meigs County Farm Bureau. He worked part time for Maw Williams in Rutland, assembling farm equipment. He was a substitute mail carrier for Minersville Rural Route. Sam was a pioneer in Meigs County for cage layers.

In 1945, Sam married Dorothy Hamm and this union was blessed with three children, Gary and twins Louise and Lenora.

He was preceded in death by his parents, G. L. and Florence, sister and brother-in-law Nellie and Wilbur Parker, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Virgil and Mary Hamm. He was also preceded in death by wives Dorothy Hamm Michael, ex-wife Wavelen Householder Michael, wife Cora Hilton Michael, and Nellie Hatfield Michael; and a grandson Todd Michael.

He is survived by his children, Gary (Sharon) Michael, Louise Michael, and Lenora (Roger) Leifheit; Grandchildren- Matthew (Patty) Michael, Kimberly (Jared) Spencer, Dorothy Leifheit, and Michael (Joni) Leifheit; Great Grandchildren- Sarah and Katie Michael; Step Great Grandchild- Chrissy; Great Grandchildren- Jacob, Leah, and Jenna Spencer, and Mason and Brayden Leifheit; four step Great Great Grandchildren; and several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral service will conducted by Pastor Linea (Warmke) McCreely at Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home Pomeroy, Wednesday December 21, 2016 at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Gilmore Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday December 20, 2016 from 6:00 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
