POMEROY – Lorena Bissell was sentenced to prison for her involvement with drugs in Meigs County.

Bissell, of Pomeroy, will serve two years in prison on one count of Trafficking and one count of Possession. She had originally been charged with an additional six counts of Possession and an additional four counts of Trafficking, but entered into a plea agreement with previous Prosecuting Attorney Colleen Williams. All of the charges were felony counts. Following Bissell’s plea of guilty, six of the Possession charges were dropped and four of the Trafficking charges were dropped.

Bissell was indicted by a Meigs County Grand Jury on July 22, 2016. She had been scheduled for a jury trial on December 13, 2016, but a plea agreement was reached and the guilty plea was entered. She was sentenced by Judge Carson Crow in the Meigs County Court of Common Pleas.

“I watched myself become a monster,” Bissell said as she apologized for her involvement in drugs and her addiction.

She went to say that she apologized for “being weak”, along with the embarrassment and shame” she caused her family. She said her children were victims in all of this and she expressed her desire to be sober and help others struggling with addiction.

In addition to the prison sentence, Bissell will have to pay the costs of prosecution.
