Indictment handed down in alleged domestic violence and assault case

POMEROY – An indictment has been handed down by Meigs County Grand Jury in alleged domestic violence incident that carried over into the parking lot of local tavern.

Matthew A. Eblin, Jr. has been indicted on several charges by the grand jury. Eblin is charged with one count of abduction, a felony of the third degree; one count of aggravated vehicular assault, a felony of the fourth degree; and one count of domestic violence, a misdemeanor of the first degree.

On December 3, 2016, according to the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office, Eblin allegedly went after his then girlfriend who fled their residence during a domestic assault and ran to the Mizway Tavern. Eblin chased her to the Mizway and then allegedly drug the victim around the parking lot by her hair. At some point, patrons of the Mizway Tavern began to intervene. Eblin got into his vehicle, spun tires and in the process hit another woman that had been attempting to help the other victim. The second woman was eventually transported to Grant Medical Center with numerous injuries including to her face and mouth. The second woman reportedly has extensive injuries to her face that may require further surgery and therapy.

According to court documents, Eblin is charged with one count of abduction. Abduction as described in the court papers that Eblin allegedly, “without privilege to do so, knowingly did any of the following: by force or threat, restrain the liberty of another person under circumstances that create a risk of physical harm to the victim or place the other person in fear.”

Also according to court documents, the charge against Eblin of aggravated vehicular assault is described as, “recklessly operate or participate in the operation of a motor vechicle, cause serious physical harm to another person or another’s unborn.”

The domestic violence charge is a misdemeanor charge accusing Eblin that he allegedly, “knowingly caused or attempted to cause physical harm to a family or household member.”

Eblin is currently serving time in jail for violating probation on another case. He scheduled for a jury trial in April on the charges related to the December 3, 2016 alleged events.
