POMEROY – A bond issue for a new Meigs County Sheriff’s Office and Correctional Facility will not be on the ballot in May.

In their regular scheduled meeting Tuesday morning at the Meigs County Board of Elections, the bond issue died for lack of a second therefore not appearing on the ballot in May for voters. Board of Elections member David Fox made the motion for the bond issue to be on the ballot, but it failed to gain a second.

The proposed bond issue had been in question with the Secretary of State’s Office. It was sent back to the Meigs County Board of Elections to decide. According to Board of Elections Director, Tammy Cline, “The ballot language was correct,” but she continued that it was, “on a levy form instead of a bond form.”

Meigs County Prosecuting Attorney James Stanley said the issue appeared to be with the heading, not the language of the form itself. The heading had “levy” on it, but the issue was for a bond.

Attending the meeting in addition to Cline and Fox were Board of Election President, Charlie Williams, board members Rita Slavin and Jimmy Stewart. Also in attendance was Prosecutor Stanley, Meigs County Commissioner Tim Ihle, and Deputy Scott Trussell. Assistant Director Angela Robson was attended as well.
