(Editor’s note: The Meigs County Sheriff’s Office Deputies respond to all sorts of calls. The notebook is a listing of the public record of those calls.)

On Feb. 19, 2017 Meigs County Sheriff’s Deputies among other things, had two medic assists and investigated a complaint.
Medic assist – Sgt. Griffin responded to a residence on Eagle Ridge Road about a call for assistance for EMS. Sgt. Griffin cleared the scene and canceled EMS per the homeowner’s request.
Investigate complaint – Deputies responded to a verbal argument at a residence on Enterprise Road. Deputies took a statement from a male subject and determined that no criminal action had taken place.
Medic assist – Deputies were called to Arbors of Pomeroy nursing home due to a male resident being combative. Deputies arrived and cleared the scene. The male was later transported to Holzer ER in Gallipolis by Portsmouth ambulance.
Alarm drop – Sgt. Griffin responded to an active alarm located on Baily Run Road. A family member was on scene and stated that it was a false alarm and the residence was secure.

Various complaint investigations along with a theft were handled by the Deputies on Feb. 20.
Investigate complaint – Deputies received a call from a residence located in Pageville stating that a male subject had just been assaulted. Upon arrival, deputies were able to view video surveillance showing the altercation. Matthew Ty Gilmore, 22, from Pageville was arrested for assault and transported to the Sheriff’s Office.
Investigate complaint – Deputy Hupp was called to a home in Pomeroy to investigate a juvenile who may be in possession of marijuana. Deputy Hupp was able to recover evidence that appeared to be marijuana. The juvenile has been charged through Juvenile Court.
Theft – Deputy Perry received a complaint of a stolen firearm from a residence on Roy Jones Road. The victim stated the Glock 19 semi auto pistol was in a case, along with three magazines. There was no forced entry into the home. The incident remains under investigation.
Investigate complaint – Deputy Perry received report alleging the theft on money from a deceased male’s bank account. Approximately $11,000 has been reported missing. The incident remains under investigation.
Suspicious vehicle – A resident on Peach Fork Road called and advised that for the last two years on mostly Wednesday and Thursday nights, he has had someone sitting at the end of his driveway revving their engine. Deputies will be doing extra patrol in the area.
Suspicious vehicle – A resident on Rocksprings Road reported a vehicle had stopped in their driveway. When her husband went outside, the vehicle was started and began racing up and down the road. Sgt. Jones patrolled the area and was unable to locate the vehicle.
Prowlers – Another resident on State Route 684 call and advised she believed someone was trying to break into her house. Deputy Stacy and Sgt. Jones checked the area, however, nothing was found.

An ATV accident along with prowler reports were investigated by the Deputies on Feb. 21.
ATV accident – Deputy Snoke, Perry and Sgt. Jones responded to Car and ATV wreck ATV at 66244 State Route 124 (Second Street and State Route 124 above Reeds Store). Both drivers left the scene of the accident. Courtney Dailey was later arrested by Belpre Police Department and admitted to her involvement in the accident. Travis Barber is wanted for questioning for his part of the accident.
Prowlers – Another Rocksprings Road resident reported she heard someone knocking on her back door and then someone running around her deck. Sgt. Jones responded to the residence. Nothing was found.
Prowlers – A Bradbury Road resident called the sheriff’s office stating the caller and a girlfriend had been up watching movies and eating pizza all night when they started to hear noises outside the residence. The caller believed someone was trying to get in their camper. Sgt. Jones and Deputy Stacy responded and did not find anyone around the area.
Prowlers – A Morning Star Road resident reported she thought someone was trying to break into her garage. Sgt. Jones and Deputy Stacy responded and found no signs of entry.

On Feb. 22, the Deputies investigated another complaint and arrested an alleged impaired driver.
Well-being check – Our office received a call from Adult Protective Services, requesting a well- being check on a female located on Silver Ridge Road. Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with the female who stated she was fine and did not require our assistance.
Investigate complaint – Our office received a report of a male who had been missing for the past 24 hours. Information was obtained for a report and surrounding agencies were notified. The male was located the following day in good condition.
Impaired driver – Sgt. Jones arrested Bernard Strauss, 59, from Amesville, Ohio for Physical Control of Motor Vehicle while under the influence and Left of Center after he almost struck Sgt. Jones’s patrol vehicle at the intersection of Tornado Road and 5th Street in Racine. Strauss was incarcerated over-night and release with a court date.
Sex offender – Sgt Patterson registered one sex offender.
Theft – Deputy Snoke is investigating the theft through an online purchase. The victim reportedly purchased a firearm through an online purchase, paid for the item, but has not received the firearm. The investigation is ongoing.
Court – Deputies took six prisoners for court appearances and transported one prisoner back to prison.

On Feb. 23, the Deputies were involved in a two county pursuit.
Sex offender – Sgt Patterson registered one sex offender.
Pursuit – Deputy Chris Jones attempted to stop Anthony Davis, 29, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant and is also a suspect in another criminal investigation. Anthony refused to stop and was pursued through parts of Meigs and Vinton Counties. Davis was later arrested by Deputy Jones and is currently in jail.
Probation – Adult Parole Authority Officer Congroves and Sgt Patterson verified the address of four people who are on probation and/or sex offenders and did home checks. Court Officer Tucker and Sgt Patterson also completed home checks on several people who are on probation.

On Feb. 24, Deputies assisted the court officer on a call and bond revocation.
Sex offender – Sgt Patterson registered one sex offender.
Drugs – Deputy Myers is investigating a report of a black bookbag found along the road that may contain some drugs. Deputy Myers collected the book bag and is continuing with the investigation.
Four wheelers – Sgt Patterson took a report of four wheelers driving on Noble Summit Rd blocking traffic. Sgt Patterson patrolled the area but didn’t locate the four-wheeler.
Court papers – Sgt Patterson served two court papers.
Bond revocation/<strong>drugs – Court Officer Tucker went to a residence in Pomeroy to check on Robert Qualls, 38, who was out on bond with a GPS house arrest bracelet. Tucker determined that Qualls had been tampering with the GPS monitor and Qualls was taken back into custody. A search of Qualls residence turned up a small amount of a substance believed to be drugs. Charges will be filed when analysis results are received from the lab.

Criminal damage, a meth lab and an attempted theft were dealt with by the Deputies on Feb. 25.
Court papers – Sgt Patterson served one court paper.
Domestic – Deputy Snoke assisted Middleport Police with a Domestic Violence call on Beech Street.
EMS assist – Sgt Patterson assisted EMS with an elderly woman, at Brown’s Trailer Park, who was having trouble breathing. The woman was transported to Meigs ER by the squad.
Criminal damage – Deputy King took a report of a female causing damage to a computer at Alligator Jacks. The incident was caught on camera and the investigation continues.
Meth lab – Deputy Snoke investigated a report of a possible Meth Lab discarded on Blake Hill. When Deputy Snoke arrived on scene he determined it was a Meth Lab and called out Deputy Barnhart, Meigs County Sheriff’s Office Meth Tech, who determined it to be a hydrochloric gas generator commonly used in the process of manufacturing methamphetamine. Deputy Barnhart packaged all harmful material for proper disposal.
Attempted theft – Deputy Snoke took a report from a resident who reported that he returned home and noticed a strange vehicle sitting in the parking lot of his business. He went to check it out but when he walked around the back of his garage he saw a suspect. Allegedly caught was Blake Humphrey, 26, in one of the resident’s vehicles with the car radio “in his hands”. Blake was held at the scene until Deputy Snoke arrived and took Blake into custody. Charges were filed against Blake and he was later released to his father.

On Feb. 26, another theft complaint was investigated.
Alarm drop – Sgt. Griffin responded to a garage alarm at a residence in Burlingham. The house and the garage were cleared and appeared to be secure. No sign of entry was found.
Investigate complaint – Deputies responded to a report of stolen items from a vehicle located on Trouble Creek Road. The victim reported multiple items were missing from his truck. The incident remains under investigation.

On Feb. 27 the Deputies investigated an assault along with several other things.
Assault – Deputy Perry took a call from a male alleging he had been assaulted on Saturday night at the Mizway. Charges are pending in county court on the suspect.
Verbal altercation: Deputies responded to Eagle Ridge Road for a possible argument between a husband and wife. No charges filed.
Pedestrian in roadway – Deputy Stacy and Sgt Jones with assistance from Pomeroy and Middleport Police Departments responded to the area of U.S. 33 and State Route 681 for a male subject running in and out of traffic wearing nothing but blue jeans and one sock. Sgt Jones arrived in the area to find a male subject, who was later identified as Todd A. Dill, 42, of Pomeroy, running in the roadway. Sgt. Jones had to swerve his vehicle to avoid hitting Dill and then attempted to get Dill in his cruiser to avoid any further incident. Dill allegedly appeared to be under the influence of an illegal substance and incoherent to Sgt Jones’s commands. Dill then ran up the west bound lane of U.S. 33 to Rocksprings Road to allegedly avoid arrest. In attempt to stop Dill for his safety, Sgt. Jones deployed his taser. Sgt. Jones only managed to strike Dill with one barb as Dill jumped the guardrail, he disappeared into the night. Dill was arrested the next morning at a residence on Flatwoods Road. He is currently being house in the Meigs County Jail pending court appearances.

On Feb. 28, another complaint investigation took place involving an alleged assault of a juvenile.
Investigate complaint – Deputy Hupp received a call from Eastern High School in reference to an alleged assault of a juvenile. Deputy Hupp and Child Protective Services are investigating the incident.

The month of March began with the investigation of a burglary and a vehicle stop.
Burglary – Deputy Perry responded to a burglary call at a foreclosed home on Old State Route 346 in Columbia Township. It appeared that forced entry had been made. An investigation is ongoing.
Vehicle stop – Deputies Babb and King with the assistance of the Middleport Police Department, arrested Anthony Doerfer, 33, of Pomeroy after a vehicle stop on Powell Street in Middleport. Doerfer was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence and child endangerment after he attempted to conceal an illegal substance on a child.

On March 2, Deputies assisted Meigs EMS with an overdose.
Overdose – Sgt. Jones, while at the Go Mart in Tuppers Plains, was notified of male that appeared to be slumped over in his car in the parking lot. Deputy King and EMS responded to the scene. The male was administered two Narcan doses by Sgt Jones and was transported to Holzer Pomeroy Emergency room.

Deputies transported several males to prison during the week. Deputies also transported both males and females to and from Court.
