RedStorm softball duo honored by River States Conference

FLORENCE, Kentucky, – University of Rio Grande senior Tiffany Bise and freshman Michaela Criner have been named the River States Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week and Player of the Week, respectively, for March 6-12.

Bise, a native of Circleville, Ohio, beat NCAA Division II Ohio Valley, 11-2, as part of the RedStorm’s trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C. The complete-game win came in six innings in limiting OVU to two unearned runs on four hits. She picked up five strikeouts versus no walks.

In six games pitched this year, Bise is 2-1 with a 2.17 ERA. She has started two games and pitched 19.1 innings so far.
Criner, a freshman from Lancaster, Ohio, collected seven hits in 12 at bats (.583), tripled three times, scored four runs and tallied seven RBIs. Rio Grande won three of those five games, including a 3-1 victory over NAIA No. 8 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in which she drove in all three Rio runs.

Criner tripled in three different games, had three multi-hit games and three games with multiple RBIs. Her slugging percentage for the week was 1.083. For the year, she is leading the RedStorm with a batting average of .394, and she also has 10 RBIs.

Rio Grande, ranked No. 24 in the NAIA Top 25, is 11-6 overall and has its next games March 18 at Montreat (N.C.).
