UPDATE – The National Weather Service has cancelled this warning for Meigs County.

ORIGINAL STORY

MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio – As of 3:30 p.m. on January 14, 2018 there is a flood warning for areas in Meigs County along the Ohio River.

According to the National Weather Service the flood warning goes from the evening of January 14 through the morning of January 15, 2018 or until the warning is cancelled.

Minor flooding is expected with a flood stage of 35.0 feet. The river is expected to rise near flood stage January 14.

At stages near 35.0 feet Ohio State Route 124 is flooded north of Stiversville Road, at Rock Run, at Wells Run to Smith Ridge to Dewitts Run, at Forked Run, at Curtis Hollow Road and between Long Bottom and Shade River. Ohio State 124 near the Washington and Meigs County line is also flooded.

A crest near 35.0 feet compares to a previous crest of 34.4 feet on March 16, 2015.

All along the Ohio River in Meigs County there are signs the river is rising. The water has been rising in the Pomeroy Parking Lot, with the river front already under water.

Motorists are advised to “turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flood waters and not attempt to drive through such areas.
