The information is a brief summary of the fire deparment response to calls as well as other information such as fundraisers or other firehouse news. January 1, 2018
Racine Station 2: Shortly after midnight, a call was received at the firehouse of a Racine elderly couple whose furnace pilot light needed to be relit. A crew was assembled and Truck 24 proceeded to the residence. After a short time, the furnace was relit and functioning. As a precaution, a reading was taken with the gas monitor to ensure the home was safe for the residents, all was ok. Units returned to station.
Racine Station 2: At 4:12 p.m., the department was alerted to a farm accident on Lovett Road, Lebanon Township. As brush 26, Engine 23 and Truck 24 responded, they were advised that an individual was entrapped in a single row corn picker. Units arrived and began extrication that would take 40 minutes to complete. Patient was transported aeromedical to a local trauma center. Meigs Sheriffs Department and Meigs EMS was also on scene.
January 2, 2018
Racine Station 2: At 2:03 p.m. Responded to a request by Meigs EMS Medic 2 for four wheel drive assistance on Dewitts Run Road, Lebanon Township. Brush 26 picked up the patient from the residence and transported them to the ambulance which had staged at the bottom of the driveway.
Pomeroy Station 1: Responded to a two vehicle accident on Lincoln Hill at the intersection of High Street, Pumper 1 responded to the scene and found minor vehicle damage with no injuries. Crews cancelled the responding medical units and remained on scene until until Pomeroy Police Department took over the scene.
January 3, 2018
Racine Station 2: At 8:38 p.m., units was dispatched to a single vehicle rollover on Tornado Road near US 33 intersection, Sutton Township. Engine 23 and Truck 24 arrived on scene to find one patient lightly entrapped in the vehicle. The drivers side door was removed to ease patient removal. Occupant was transported by Meigs EMS to a local facility for evaluation.
Pomeroy Station 1: Responded to a report of a one vehicle accident on State Route 143, just past Infirmary Road in Salisbury Township. Upon arrival, crews found one vehicle with two patients, one of which was still in the vehicle. Crews assisted Meigs EMS with patient removal and traffic control until OSP unit arrived on scene. One person was transported for treatment of injuries as a result of the crash. Responding to the call was Pomeroy Pumper 1, Meigs EMS, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol. January 5, 2018
Pomeroy Station 1: Responded to a fire alarm activation on State Route 143, Salisbury Township. Pomeroy Ladder 2 responded to the residence where crews were met by the homeowner who reported an issue with a heater, but no fire. Crews checked with the homeowner who advised the residence was clear and no other assistance was needed. Crews returned to quarters with no injuries or damage reported.
Racine Station 2: A call was received at the firehouse for a driver that had locked their keys in the car at Clemens King Funeral Home on Elm Street Racine. Truck 24 handled the call and was able to unlock the vehicle.
January 6, 2018
Racine Station 2: at 6:29 p.m., a call was received for a two car crash on State Route 124 near the Tanners Run Road intersection, Letart Township. Engine 23 handled the call and remained on scene until it could be handed over to Ohio State Highway Patrol. One patient was transported by Meigs EMS to a local facility for evaluation.
January 7, 2018
Pomeroy Station 1: Responded to a four-wheel drive assistance call on Beech Street in the Village of Pomeroy. Truck 6 responded to the Mulberry Community Center where they met Meigs EMS crew and transported them to the scene. Several other units responded to the scene to assist via a four-wheel drive truck belonging to a fire department member. Meigs EMS crews assisted the patient with no transport needed. Station 1 members cleared the scene and returned to quarters after approximately 30 minutes.
Racine Station 2: at 10:29 p.m., the department was dispatched to a residence on Tornado Road for a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm activation. Upon Engine 27’s arrival, the CO monitor was used and a reading of 35 parts per million was discovered. Units searched for the source of the CO. The source was found to be the furnace. The residents were advised it was unsafe to stay in the residents and to secure alternative living arrangements until proper repairs were made.
January 8, 2018
Pomeroy Station 1: The station was alerted to 4 calls for assistance.
Call 1: Station 1 was alerted to an animal rescue on the Ohio River with Pomeroy Police Department on East Main Street in the Village of Pomeroy, Pomeroy Police advised there was a dog on the ice near the riverbank and unable to return to shore. As Truck 6 and Boat 1 responded, Pomeroy police advised to cancel, as the animal had made it back to shore.
Call 2: Station 1 was alerted to 2 possible crashes on State Route 33 near Peach Fork Road, and one near the roadside rest on State Route 33. Pumper 1, Truck 6, and Rescue 4 responded from the station. Upon arrival of Pumper 1, both calls referenced were the same accident, between the State Route 33 Eastbound roadside rest and Rock Springs Road in Bedford Township. Crews found a vehicle had hit a guardrail and slid into the median. No injuries were reported. Meigs EMS, Meigs Sheriff Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol all responded to the accident.
Call 3: Truck 6 and Rescue 4 responded to a lifting assistance call on East Memorial Drive in Pomeroy Village with Meigs EMS.
Call 4: Truck 6 and Rescue 4 responded to a lifting assistance call on Holly Lane in the Village of Pomeroy with Meigs EMS.
Racine Station 2: A call was taken at the firehouse for a Racine resident on South Broadway who felt light headed and nauseous and ask that the residence be checked for possible CO contamination. Truck 24 handled the call and found no CO or gas in the residence. The Occupant was advised to replace the CO monitor as it was found to be over 10 years old. Resident advised they would purchase a new monitor.
Upon clearing from the previous incident units overheard traffic from the Sheriffs Department regarding a car that had possibly slid down the Racine Levee into the river. Truck 24 responded to that location and found that a car had went into the water. The driver was able to escape the vehicle before it entered the river. A report was taken, and dispatch was advised to notify Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) and the US Coast Guard of the incident. The scene was turned over to OSP for investigation.
After turning the scene over to OSP units were requested to do a well being check on the residence on Tornado road from the January 7, 22018 call for CO alarm, to ensure that the owner had made repairs to the furnace. Truck 24 went to the location and found nobody home and returned to quarters.
January 10, 2018
Racine Station 2: Was dispatched to a lifting assistance with Meigs EMS Medic 2, on State route 124 near Pine Grove Road, Sutton Township. Truck 24 handled the call and assisted in transporting the patient from the house to the ambulance, which was staged at the bottom of the driveway.
January 11, 2018
Racine Station 2: Was dispatched to Stiversville Road at he Barringer Ridge Road intersection, Lebanon Township for report of a tree down on the roadway. Brush 26 handled the call and quickly removed the tree from the roadway.
Pomeroy Station 1: At 2:35 p.m., Station 1 was alerted for a lifting assistance call with Meigs EMS on Cook Road in Salisbury twp. Pomeroy Rescue 4 responded, and while en-route were informed that Meigs EMS had loaded the patient and requested assistance unloading the patient at Holzer Meigs ER. Rescue 4 diverted to the ER to assist, and returned to quarters at 3 p.m.
January 12, 2018
Pomeroy Station1: At around 4 a.m., units were alerted to Willow Creek road in Salisbury township for a tree down possibly in power lines. When crews arrived on scene they found a large tree across the road on top of the communication lines and power lines were not involved. Units cut the tree and removed it from the roadway and returned to quarters around 5:15 a.m. No injuries were reported.
Pomeroy Station 1: Responded to a one car rollover with unknown entrapment or injuries on State Route 33 near Kingsbury Road in Bedford Township. Station 1 responded to the scene and assisted with securing the vehicle and maintained traffic control during the incident. Responding was Pomeroy Pumper 1, Truck 6, Rescue 4, Meigs County EMS, and the Meigs County Sheriff’s office.
Syracuse Station 3: At 8:15 p.m. was alerted to SR 124 in the S-Curves for a one vehicle car crash. Weather and road conditions were a factor in the accident. The driver was the only occupant and there were no injuries. Units were on the scene approximately 2 hours and returned to quarters safely.
January 14, 2018
Racine Station 2: Was dispatched to Main Street in Racine with the Meigs County Sheriffs Department for a CO investigation. Upon arrival units were informed the the Sheriffs Department was conducting a well being check when a deceased person was located in the residents. Using a gas monitor, crews tested the air in the building and determined that there was no CO present. Custody of the scene was returned to the Sheriffs office and units returned to quarters.
Syracuse Station 3: At 2:38 p.m. Station 3 was dispatched to a residence on Third Street near the corporation limits for a water rescue on a animal. Truck 30 with the backwater boat and Engine 34 responded. After arriving on the scene and locating the dog, they repositioned to the old Minersville ballpark area to launch the boat. They were able to reach the dog while breaking ice the whole way there. The dog was apparently walking on the ice and fell through. It was returned it to the owners and all units returned to quarters safely.

Pomeroy Fire Department Firemen’s Raffle
The Pomeroy Firemen’s Association announces their first raffle of 2018, a CZ-USA 612 Magnum 12 Gauge Turkey Shotgun. Chances are $10, with the drawing to be held on March 4, 2018 or whenever all chances are sold. Chances are being sold by members of the fire department, or by private messaging the department’s Facebook page. The Pomeroy Fire Department thanks all those that continue to support Station 1.
