Judge Steven Story

Steven Lewis Story, 64, of Pomeroy, died Saturday morning, June 16, 2018 in Columbus from complications resulting from a long struggle with cancer.

He was born on May 28, 1954, in Pomeroy, Ohio, the son of the late Robert and Nona (Mourning) Story.

Steve was a graduate of Pomeroy High School, the Ohio State University, and Ohio Northern Law School. He attended Grace Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Elizabeth Schaad; his son Nicholas Story of Wilmington, North Carolina; his siblings Patrick and Elizabeth Story of Middleport, Margaret Story of Middleport; J.D. and Tina Story of Pomeroy; his in-laws Tom and Janet Schaad of Marietta, Jim and Anna Schaad of Marietta; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Steve was a practicing attorney in Pomeroy for nearly forty years. He also served as solicitor for the Village of Middleport, Meigs County Prosecuting Attorney, and Meigs County Court Judge.

Steve was well-known throughout the community for his passion for economic development, and was a member of the Meigs County Chamber of Commerce, the Southeastern Ohio Regional Council (SEORC), the Community Improvement Corporation (CIC), the Executive Committee of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Meigs County Bar Association, and an ex officio member of the Executive Committee of the Meigs County Republican Party.

He loved the law, politics, history, Airedale Terriers, travel, cooking and, most of all, his family. He was a funny, generous, and loving person. He will be dearly missed.

Friends may call on family on Thursday, June 21 from 4-8 p.m. at Anderson-McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 22 at 11 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church in Pomeroy.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children’s Shoe Giveaway, sponsored by Grace Episcopal Church at 326 E. Main Street, Pomeroy.
