POMEROY, Ohio – A suspect wanted in connection with a shooting in Logan, Ohio has turned himself to authorities in Meigs County, Ohio.

According to a statement from the City of Logan Police Department, the suspect turned himself in to the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office on Sept. 9, 2018 at 3 a.m. following a shooting that had allegedly taken place earlier that morning in Logan. The message that the individual had turned himself in was relayed to Logan PD through the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office according to the statement.

Several patrol units from the Logan Police Department and Hocking County Sheriff’s Office arrived at a residence on Freisner Avenue in Logan. Upon arrival, they attempted to contact any occupants inside but received no response. Responding units forcibly entered the residence and discovered a 37-year-old female deceased. According to law enforcement, the preliminary reports indicate the female died from gunshot wounds. No one else was found in the home.

Detectives from the Logan PD, Hocking County Coroner, Dr. Dave Cummin and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations Crime Scene Unit subsequently arrived at the residence to process the crime scene. The body of the as of yet unidentified female victim was transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for autopsy.

The initial response from the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office to a residence in Meigs County resulted in a 50-year-old male subject being taken into custody. According to the statement from law enforcement, several items of alleged evidence were also seized.

According to Logan Police Department statement, “Due to the ongoing investigation, the identity of teh victim and suspect are being withheld pending notification of the family members of the deceased.”

More information is expected to be released by law enforcement later.
