Middleport PD make arrests in theft cases

MIDDLEPORT, Ohio – The Middleport Police Department is reporting they have made several arrests in separate cases recently.

According to a statement from the Middleport Police Department Chief Bruce Swift, Sonja Stiffler, of Middleport, was arrested and charged with criminal offenses at several locations in Middleport. She is charged with Breaking and Entering, Theft and Safecracking at Wheels and Deals. She has been charged for Breaking and Entering at the Meigs County Council on Aging. Additionally, Stiffler has been charged with Vandalism at both the Middleport Library and Superior Auto Body. Stiffler is being held on a $75,000 cash bond. Other charges are pending against Stiffler for damage to the Farmer’s Bank ATM on January 17, 2019 and that case has been sent to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

In another case, Zachariah Butcher, of Middleport, was arrested on a charge of Theft and Criminal Trespass. This is a felony charge in relation to his alleged “theft of a section of railroad rail at the Watco Industries Railroad Depot in Middleport,” according to the statement. Butcher is being held in the Middleport Jail awaiting arraignment.

Scott Peterson, of Rutland, was arrested on a charges of Theft and Possession of a Controlled Substance. This is in connection to alleged shoplifting at Family Dollar in Middleport. He was also awaiting arraignment.

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
