Cooling Stations set to Open July 19-20 during Excessive Heat Warning

UPDATE – An additional cooling station has been opened. Tuppers Plains Volunteer Fire Department will be available as a cooling station this weekend starting Friday at 4 p.m. until Sunday evening. If needed, please send a message to us or contact EMS at 740-992-6619 and a member will respond to the station.

MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio – Cooling stations are being opened as Meigs County and the surrounding areas prepare for an Excessive Heat Warning July 19-20, 2019.

The Syracuse Community Center (2244 Seventh Street) will be open as a cooling station from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday (July 19-20) due to the Excessive Heat Warning issued by the National Weather Service. Residents may contact the Meigs County non-emergency number at 740-992-4729 if transportation assistance is needed. The Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department will be on stand by for residents in need.

The Middleport Village Hall Gymnasium will also be open as a cooling station to accommodate those in need of relief from high temperatures. The cooling station will be open from noon to 7 p.m. daily during the advisory (July 19-20).

An Excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely.
