Meigs Cleanup Day set for May 15, 2021
POMEROY, Ohio – After missing a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Meigs Cleanup Day is set for May 15, 2021.
The event allows Meigs County residents to dispose of unwanted items and will take place at the Meigs County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 15. The cleanup day is only open to Meigs County residents. Proof of residency such as a driver’s license or utility bill. No industrial or commercial customers permitted. Those attending are reminded to follow the signs and directions for disposal of items at the fairgrounds.
There will be a small fee for tires. Scrap tire disposal will be $0.50 per tire. Organizers will only be accepting cash. No checks or credit/debit cards will be accepted for scrap tire payment. There is a limit of 10 tires per vehicle. No farm tractor tires or rims will be accepted. Except for the nominal fee for scrap tires, the Cleanup Day is free to Meigs County residents.
During the Meigs Cleanup Day the following items will not be accepted for disposal: general household trash; household hazardous waste (paint, chemicals, cleaners, pool chemicals, and used oil), fluorescent lamps; pesticides; herbicides and fertilizer; medical, infectious, or biohazard waste.
The Meigs Cleanup Day is made possible through funding and support provided by the Meigs County Commissioners, Meigs County Soil and Water Conservation District, Meigs County Health Department, Gavin Power Plant, and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. The Meigs County Fairgrounds is located at 41850 Fairgrounds Road, Pomeroy, Ohio 45769. For more information call the Meigs County Health Department at 740-992-6626.
Items that ARE accepted during the Meigs Cleanup Day include but not limited to –
- Household items: furniture; toys; appliances (including air conditioners, freezers, and refrigerators); tools; box springs/mattresses; carpet; lawn furniture.
- Tires: Scrap tires up to 10 per vehicle; each tire will have a fee of $0.50 each. (No tractor tires or rims.)
- Reusable items: working appliances; arts & crafts; office equipment and supplies; unused lumber and building materials; unused electrical and plumbing fixtures; electronics; collectibles; antiques. All donations are accepted or rejected at the discretion of the organizer.
- Recyclables: scrap metal and electronics; lawn mowers; car batteries; appliances; air conditioners; computers; servers; copiers; scanners; UPS and battery back-up systems; microwaves; toasters.
