Donald “Donnie” Eugene Nitz, 52

Donald “Donnie” Eugene Nitz, 52, of Middleport, a loving husband, father of three children, step-father of two, grandfather of five, and brother, passed away unexpectedly, on Thursday, August 25, 2022, in the St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. Born April 11, 1970, in Gallipolis, he was the son of the late Coy and Nora Schaefer Nitz.

He loved his kids, his wife, Nascar, and Busch Light. He was a man of many talents and loved to work with his hands. He was always the first to offer help and would give you the shirt off his back. He was employed with the Village of Pomeroy. In Donnie’s own words “I was here, but now I’m gone. I left my name to carry on. Those who knew me, knew me well. Those who didn’t can go to Hell.”

On November 13, 2020 he married Paula Ann Hartshorn Nitz, the other half of his hear that he finally found. Together they laughed and loved, even though all the competitive games. She survives in Middleport.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Courtney (Adam) Bullington, of Portland, Jacob (Leslea) Nitz, of Pomeroy, and Jesse (Opal) Nitz, of Pomeroy, step-children, Jake (Kaitlyn) Browning, of Gallipolis, and Jessica Browning, of Orient, Oh., several grandchildren, a sister, Vicki (Nelson) Morrison, special friends, Mike McDaniel and Jimmy Morrison, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his three brothers, Rick Schaefer, Rusty and Brian Nitz, and a sister, Debbie Brockert.  

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 in the Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Pomeroy. Interment will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery. Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the funeral home on Tuesday.
