One Suspect in Custody in Pomeroy Homicide

POMEROY, Ohio – One suspect is in custody in connection with death of a Pomeroy resident.

Multiple agencies have been involved the investigation of a homicide in Pomeroy. According to According to Pomeroy Police Chief Chris Pitchford, his office along with the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) have been working on a homicide investigation. The call concerning the homicide came in during the evening hours approximately 6:30 p.m. on September 30, 2022. A person of interest was identified by law enforcement to be Wayne “J.R.” Leib. Leib, 40, of Meigs County was taken into custody within hours by law enforcement. Leib was seen on a BMX style bicycle according Chief Pitchford.

The name of the victim has not yet been officially released. Information concerning a possible motive or further details have not been released either other than multiple agencies have been involved.

Assisting in the search and arrest of the suspect were Middleport and Syracuse Police Departments. The Ohio State Highway Patrol was also involved.

Another incident in Mason, West Virginia occurred earlier in the day. The death in Mason may or may not be related to the one in Pomeroy. The investigation is ongoing. As more information becomes available, the Meigs Independent Press will continue to cover this developing story.
