Scottie Smith

Scottie Smith, 71, of Chester, OH, passed away at his residence, surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 29, 2023. 

Scottie was born on August 30, 1951, in Cottageville, WV, to the late Benjamin Harrison Smith and Ruth Grady Smith.

Scottie is survived by his wife of 42 years, Esther (Hayes) Smith; brothers, Kenny Smith, Curtis B. (Sandra) Smith; sisters, Mary Weedo, Connie S. (Manley) Stinson and Penny G. (Bill) Elam; stepsons, Lowell (Sharon) Ridenour and John (Melanie) Ridenour and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren that he loved very much. 


Scottie was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Harold Eugene Smith, Carroll Lee Smith and Jimmy Ray Smith. 


Scottie was a TV repairman with his own business with his lifelong friend, Dewayne Williams. Scottie then became a rural mail carrier in Long Bottom and retired as mail carrier for Reedsville. 


Scottie was a Master Mason in Shade River Lodge #453 he was also a member of Pomeroy Chapter #80, Bosworth Council #46, Ohio Valley Commandery #24- York Rite Bodies in Middleport, Ohio Priory #18 Knight of the York Cross of Honour. Past District Education Officer and Past District Deputy Grand High Priest Thirteenth Capitular District Ohio Royal Arch Masons. Ohio Valley York Rite College #196-Past Governor 2016 and Order of the Purple Cross, Life Member Valley of Columbus Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite 32 Degree Mason. Allied Masonic Degree-Marietta, Knight Masons-Donegal Council, Marietta. Red Cross of Constantine, Holy Royal Arch Knights Templar Priests-Lafayette Conclave. 


Scottie enjoyed gardening, fishing and working on anything for anybody. Scottie enjoyed going to Blowing Rock, NC, every year to fish for trout and all the scenery. 


The family wishes to thank Scottie’s nephew and niece, Rick and Candy Smith for all their excellent care and sacrifice. Special thanks also to grandkids, Laura, Brian, Jason Keith and Roger for their special care and sacrifice. 
Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M., Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home in Coolville, OH, with Randy Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Chester Cemetery. A meal and fellowship will be held at the Chester Masonic Lodge following the graveside service. 


Visitation will be held at the funeral home Monday, from 5-7 P.M. 
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Chester Masonic Lodge.
