Emmett Edward Long Sr., 92, of Jackson, Ohio passed away Thursday, September 19, 2024, at his residence. He was born January 17, 1932, in Wilkesville, Ohio, son of the late Chauncy and Nellie (Whittington) Long. Emmett retired from Meigs Mine #31, was a member of the UMWA and World Outreach Ministries of Jackson.

Emmett is survived by children: Gwendolyn Newhart, Wilkesville, Ohio, Patricia (Ron) Dow, N. San Juan, California, Emmett (Brenda) Long Jr., Allensville, Ohio, Rebecca (Ricie) Dalton, Logan, Ohio and Phyllis (Jerry Mauler) Smathers, McArthur, Ohio; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Emmett married Geraldine “Geri” Long on June 23, 1951, and she preceded him in death July 23, 2021. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by son, Kenneth Robert Long; grandsons, Eric Allen Curry and Brian Keith Long; brother, William Abraham Long; sisters, Hazel Long Bowen and Ruth Long; brother-in-law, Woodrow Bowen and sister-in-law Mable Long.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel, with his son, Emmett Long, Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow in Vinton Memorial Park. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday, September 24, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.
