On Thursday, September 19, 2024, William “Bill” Eugene Pickens earthly journey ended as he ascended to his Heavenly home where he will be greeted by his parents, William and Frances Autherson Pickens, wife Joan, and sisters, Linda Holter and Dianna Baker who preceded him in death.

His journey started in Antiquity, Ohio and ended in Racine, Ohio.

Among his many adventures, he served 10 years in the United States Navy aboard the USS Leary DD-879, Naval Station Norfolk, VA, USS Montgomery DE-, NTC San Diego, CA,
Navy Center Washington DC, NCS Balboa, Panama, Canal Zone.  He visited thirty countries/islands from 1964-1975.  He served in Vietnam aboard USS Leary 1967-1968 where he saw duty in Mekong Delta (river craft base), and DMZ patrol, Gulf of Tonkin (trawler activity monitoring).

He attended Gallipolis Business College and Hocking Technical College and retired from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Parkersburg, West Virginia after 23 years of service.

He is survived by his brother Calvin Pickens, of Racine, Ohio and numerous nieces and nephews.

At his request, there will be no visitation or viewing.  Cremeens-King Funeral Home, Racine, is entrusted with arrangements.
