UPDATE

The shooting on Briar Ridge road is still under on going investigation.

According to Meigs County Sheriff Keith Wood, Robert Burns, step father of William Cleveland, has been released from custody as of yesterday evening. No charges have been filed at this time.

 Sheriff Wood advises that he has been in contact with Meigs County Prosecuting Attorney Colleen Williams and this case will be presented to a grand jury for their consideration.

 At this time William Cleveland’s status at St. Mary’s hospital is listed at stable condition.

UPDATED

MEIGS COUNTY -Major Scott Trussell with the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office gave additional information this afternoon resulting in one man being air lifted to St. Mary’s and another in police custody.

According to Maj. Trussell, the Meigs County Sheriff’s Office was notified by Meigs County EMS concerning the alleged shooting. Meigs EMS and Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 31855 Briar Ridge Road which is the residence of Robert and Carol Burns. According to Maj. Trussell, the deputies were informed that the Robert Burns shot William Cleveland. Cleveland is the son of Carol Burns and step-son of Robert Burns.

William Cleveland was transported to St. Mary’s with wounds to his head and abdomen, according to Maj. Trussell. Robert Burns was taken into custody as the investigation continues. Maj. Trussell said the possible charges in the case are being discussed with Meigs County Prosecuting Attorney, Colleen Williams, as the case develops.

“A small caliber pistol was recovered,” Maj. Trussell said, but declined to comment further on exactly what type of weapon was involved in the incident. He also stated that other items were seized from the home.

MEIGS COUNTY – The quiet of a peaceful country road was disturbed this morning as shots rang out resulting in one person being life flighted.

Meigs County Sheriff’s Deputies were on the scene this morning on Briar Ridge Road were an alleged shooting with the call coming into dispatch at 9:24 a.m. Meigs EMS also on the scene and the as of yet unnamed victim was taken by helicopter to St. Mary’s in Huntingon, W.V. It was reported the victim was a male and was still alive at the time of the helicopter taking off.

The alleged shooter is police custody at this time.

Deputies were on the scene investigating and one deputy was seen carrying out what appeared to be a weapon from the home. The investigation is on going. The Meigs Independent Press will update this story as more information becomes available.
