Franklin Eugene ‘Gene’ Walter, 79
Franklin Eugene ‘Gene’ Walter, age 79, of Columbus, and formerly of Gallipolis, died Thursday morning January 23, 2014 at the Kobacker House in Columbus. Born March 23, 1934 in Yellowtown, Gallia County, Ohio. Gene was the son of the late Frank Robert and Sylvia Pearl Randolph Walter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by 2 brothers, Irvin and Stanley Walter.
Gene was a retired auto mechanic, a 1951 graduate of Mercerville High School, and proudly served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War.
He is survived by 4 children, sons, Stephen and Rick Walter of Gallipolis and daughters, Sherry (Denny) Glenn of Southside and Terry Jean Walter of Bidwell, 3 granddaughters, Steffani (Scott) Sellers of Middleport, Erika Jean Myers of Hurricane, and Chevy Dawn Barnes of Bidwell, 5 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Robert David (Karen) Walter of Patriot, and by a very dear friend, Rosalind Loyd of Columbus. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM. Sunday January 26, 2014 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Rev. Alfred Holley officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00 PM. until the time of service.
Military Funeral Honors will be presented by the United States Marines and by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail.
