Winter Storm Alert from the Ohio Department of Aging

leaf snowOHIO – This evening into tomorrow morning, much of Ohio will be impacted by a winter storm bringing with it a range of wintry precipitation, from heavy accumulations of snow in some parts of the state, to a mixture of rain, snow and ice in other regions. Walking and driving conditions are expected to deteriorate quickly beginning this afternoon in most parts of our state. Ice and snow accumulations could also lead to power outages.

We urge you to take time to prepare yourself and your family, including elders, for this storm. Visit www.ready.ohio.gov to learn about winter storm terms and get tips for putting together a disaster kit.

This storm is expected to create very hazardous outdoor conditions. If you can avoid going out, please do so. If you must go out, be careful and take extra steps to prevent falls for yourself and your loved ones.

Before driving in these conditions, please be aware of local snow emergency declarations and determine if you really must travel. Check road conditions in your area by visiting ohgo.com.

We also ask that you check on older relatives, neighbors and friends before, during and after this storm. Some things to check include if they are staying warm and have access to food and water, as well as if they need medical care.

If you or an older loved one needs help, please contact your area agency on aging. Call 1-866-243-5678 to be connected to the agency serving your community, or visit our website http://www.aging.ohio.gov/resources/areaagenciesonaging/ for contact information.
