Alpha Apha Delta Chapter Conducts Induction Banquet
RIO GRANDE – Monday, March 31, 2014 presented a warm, early spring evening for the induction of new members into the Alpha Alpha Delta chapter of Phi Alpha Theta. The Davis Center at the University of Rio Grande served as the location for this event.
Phi Alpha Theta is the international honor society for History. The organization was founded in 1921 and has grown to 860 chapters across the country with nearly 9,000 new members inducted each year. The Alpha Alpha Delta chapter has existed at the University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College since 1982.
The chapter welcomed the following individuals into membership: Lisa Copley, Tyler Duncan, Thaddaeus Ellis, Joseph L. Gilliland, Joshua Goodall, Adam Hollingshead, Rebecca J. Hutchinson & Dempsey Rupe. Each new member was given a rose, membership certificate and membership card to signify their status as Phi Alpha Theta members.
Several graduating members received honor cords to wear with their graduation gowns as a visible symbol of their achievement of membership in Phi Alpha Theta. The recipients were: Halley Alberts, Mike Anderson, Lisa Copley, Charles Crabtree, Kassandra Day, Tyler Duncan, Jordan Pickens, Ernest T. Phillips IV & Crystal Smith.
The induction ceremony also served as an opportunity to recognize & honor Prof. Ellen Brasel upon her impending retirement. The chapter presented her with several gifts to recognize her for her outstanding service as a chapter advisor and years as a dedicated educator to the students at the University of Rio Grande/Rio Grande Community College.
The 2013-2014 chapter officers are: Kassandra Day (President), Jordan Pickens (Vice-President), Grant Millard (Secretary), Tabitha Mosley & Megan McCain (Historians), Nathaniel Johnson & Ernest T. Phillips IV (Sergeants- at- Arms) & Dr. Scott Beekman (Treasurer).
