Samuel B. ‘Sam’ Hamilton, age 74
Samuel B. ‘Sam’ Hamilton, age 74, of Gallipolis, died Thursday morning April 17, 2014 at Abbyshire Place. Born June 16, 1939 in Gallipolis. He was the son of the late George W. ‘Thuse’ and Claire G. ‘Babe’ Hamilton.
Sam was a retired employee of ODOT. He was a United States Army Veteran serving from 1962- 1963. He was a member of the First Church of God in Gallipolis, and also a member of the Gallipolis Elks Lodge #107. Sam was an ardent fan and supporter of the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a well-regarded coach in midget league football in Gallipolis from 1968 -1987. He was also a well know cook in the area and will be remembered for his steaks.
Sam is survived by 2 children, Lori Russell and Sam (Beth) Hamilton both of Gallipolis. 7 grandchildren, who he loved to spend time with, Gregory Russell, Samantha Russell, Corey Hamilton, Mary Beth Russell, Nathan Russell, Claire Hamilton, and Claudia Hamilton. Also surviving is a sister, Nancy Frederick of Canfield and his former son in law, Greg Russell of Gallipolis.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM. Saturday April 19, 2014 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Voss officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Street Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from Noon until the time of service. Pallbearers will be: Bob Moore, Greg S. Russell, Greg G. Russell, Corey Hamilton, Nathan Russell, and Jeff Golden. Honorary pallbearers will be: Dave McCoy, Dick Moore, Gene Oiler, Jay Simms, Bill Brown and Dick Roderick.
Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery by the Gallia County Veterans Funeral Detail and the United States Army.
