Morning Accident Ties Up Traffic
One Person Transported to Hospital
CHESTER – A morning accident tied up traffic of State Route 7 at Chester for several hours Wednesday morning.
The crash happened at about 9:44 a.m. According to Trooper Shawn Cunningham with Ohio State Highway Patrol, a pick up truck turned onto S.R. 7 and was struck by a commercial semi truck.
The driver of the semi truck, David Smith of Beckley, W.V., was traveling on Ohio 7 when a 1996 maroon Ford pick up truck driven by Allen Downie of Pomeroy pulled out from State Route 248.
Trooper Cunningham said the crash was still being investigated. He said traffic was closed for about two hours on Ohio 7 while the scene was being cleared. At one point, traffic was rerouted onto State Route 248 and Sumner Road.

Smith declined medical treatment, according to Trooper Cunningham. Downie was transported via helicopter to Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington, W.V. Downie was reported to be in fair condition according to the hospital as of publishing.
Chester Volunteer Fire Department and Meigs EMS were also on the scene.
